ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL.
This has been the hardest year
after some hard years
and yet all things bright and beautiful
swirl around me like magic.
And I stand up in my chest
and draw deep breaths
so that I remember
At its core life is an adventure
that we get to go on
and so I throw on
loafers and an old tee
And get about the art
of being me with all my heart
and I adventure on
Through rocks and trees
and mysteries and cosmologies
and oracles and theogonies
things so ancient and yet new
But always bright and beautiful
and always playfully mystical
Because the teacher in my soul
Is a juggernaut at gratitude
with a curious attitude
towards all the raditude
I get to voyage through
And so I keep telling you—
I will always tell you, my son
With grave but clear eyes
Forget the things you own
and travel almost anywhere you can go
so that you see as much as you can
of this old world and spend
every minute to the full
noticing how impossible—
that so many things are bright
and so many things are beautiful.
You have my heart.
You have my favor.
You have whatever wisdom I possess.
You have the pieces I’ve collected for you…
all things bright and beautiful.
